Super Bowl LI: What fans, media, players are saying

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 2:03 a.m. ET

Arizona Cardinals fans and players have chimed in on Super Bowl LI in Houston

Today is the day.  The last day of the 2016 NFL season.  Sup Bowl LI in Houston is here.  The New England Patriots vs. the Atlanta Falcons.

The Arizona Cardinals may not be there as we all wanted but is should still be a fun game to watch. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. Arizona time.

So who do people want to see win?  Our staff made their predictions yesterday and the majority chose the Patriots.  I however went with the Falcons.  I love watching their offense.

Atlanta’s offense is high-powered.  Quarterback Matt Ryan won MVP and Offensive Player of the Year on Saturday night at the NFL Honors event.  He deserved both awards but it would have been nice to see Cardinals running back David Johnson win the Offensive Player of the Year award.

The last seven MVP’s though that have been in the Super Bowl the same season, have lost.  Every year is taken on its own merit but it is a statistic that makes you think.

Now we’ll take a look at what fans, media, and players are saying ahead of the big game in Houston this evening. We’ll start with players.

NFL: Super Bowl LI-NFL Honors

Now former NFL quarterback Michael Vick had something to say about Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.  He was apparently watching the NFL Honors ceremony.

Now finish them.  Them being the Patriots.  The guy goes out and wins MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.  It wasn’t a fluke.  Ryan will have fun throwing the ball on Sunday despite the Patriots good defense.

Fitz has been making the rounds at the Super Bowl this week in Houston.  He’s granted a number of interviews.  Certainly Saturday night was a huge moment in winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year award with New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

Even if he wasn’t up for the award, Fitz would have been there.  It has to sting a bit that his Cardinals aren’t participating.  However it shows his character for still going to Houston and making the rounds always with a smile on his face.

Our own writers are chiming in on Twitter this morning.  Joseph Vasquez makes a great point.

Julio Jones is still hurting.  He may need an in-game Cortisone shot to make it.  However Taylor Gabriel is the secret weapon.

New England has a great defense.  They can turn what looks like great drives into nothing for their opponent in a hurry.  However only six points?  I’m fairly certain the Falcons will have that before the end of the first quarter.

It is great to see the support for the Falcons.  It won’t be easy but their offense can get to you both in the air and on the ground.  The Cardinals found this out all too well back in November.

A great story developing on the Patriots side.  Quarterback Tom Brady’s mom is going to be able to attend.  She has been battling cancer.  This is great to see!

ESPN business reporter Darren Rovell has been busy tweeting a lot of Super Bowl LI facts and stats all week.  He also has tweeted out some pictures of cleats being used tonight.

Those are sharp.  So hopefully Jones is able to play a lot on Sunday so we get a great look at those babies.

Tell you what, if Mack is able to play at all  on a fractured leg, props to that man.  This truly shows what the Super Bowl means to players.
