Source: Patriots to put RB Blount on season-ending IR

The New England Patriots are expected to place running back LeGarrette Blount on injured reserve with a hip injury, FOX Sports NFL Insider Mike Garafolo confirmed Tuesday.

Blount suffered the injury against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Mike Petraglia of WEEI first reported the news.

Blount has run for 703 yards and six touchdowns on 165 carries. He also added 43 yards and a touchdown on six receptions.

Brandon Bolden is expected to take over as the Patriots' early-down back in Blount's absence. He will form a timeshare with passing-down specialist James White. Keep an eye on former second-round draft pick Montee Ball, who was signed Tuesday to the Patriots' practice squad.
