Report: Jay Cutler 'has fallen out of favor' with some Bears coaches

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Jay Cutler may not reclaim his starting job when he returns from a thumb injury, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports.

“Cutler has fallen out of favor with some on the coaching staff, and coach John Fox wants fewer turnovers out of the quarterback position,” La Canfora adds.

Brian Hoyer has started Chicago’s last two games and has thrown four touchdowns and no interceptions. He has one lost fumble.

Cutler first injured his thumb in Week 1 and re-aggravated the injury in Week 2. He was reportedly expected to miss two to three weeks, which would make his return imminent.

Cutler threw a league-high 18 interceptions in 2014 and reduced that number to 11 last season.
