Report: Giants "fully intend" to keep JPP for 2015 season

The New York Giants will not heed David Diehl's warning about Jason Pierre-Paul not being the same player, after having his right index finger amputated on. Instead, according to beat writer Jordan Raanan, the team "fully intends" to keep him on the roster at the $14.8 million salary mandated by the franchise tag.
The Giants have the option to rescind the franchise tag, making Pierre-Paul an unrestricted free agent, but this move would leave the Giants high and dry. Arguably their best defensive player would be free to sign with any team for a multi-year contract, assuming another team would want to invest long-term in Pierre-Paul after his most recent mishap.
Instead, the Giants have decided to take a risk. Pierre-Paul's injuries are expected to keep him out between six and eight months. This would put him on target to be ready for the season opener in Dallas. Of course, his effectiveness for that game, and every game going forward, remains to be seen.
