Report: Arian Foster likely to play larger role against Colts

After rushing for 10 yards on eight carries in his first game of the season, Houston running back Arian Foster may be in line for a heavier workload in the team's Thursday night game against the Indianapolis.

Per the Houston Chronicle, the Texans are hopeful Foster will player a larger role in the offense against the Colts. In addition to his 10 carries in the Texans' 48-21 loss to Falcons, Foster caught three passes for 25 yards. He also fumbled once after teammate Derek Newton inadvertently knocked the ball loose, resulting in an Atlanta return for a touchdown.

The Pro Bowl running back made his season debut against the Falcons after missing the first three games following groin surgery in August.

Houston head coach Bill O'Brien said Foster's increased presence on the field will open things up for the offense.

“It changes it,” O’Brien said. “He’s a very talented guy. He can do a lot of different things obviously as a runner. It’s hard for anyone to expect him to come into that first game and just be totally back to normal. He hasn’t played in a long time, it’s a significant injury that he had.

“He’s a great player. He knows that he has to play well, just like I know that I have to coach well. He’s going to have a good week here, he’s had two good days here, and I think as we work him back into the offense, he’ll really help us.”

Foster said he's doing what he can get up to speed quickly.

“Yeah, that’s the thing about offense,” Foster said. “It has to be a well-oiled machine and it takes time to develop and you have a short amount of time to do that. We’re all professionals and doing what we can to accomplish that.”
