Ravens RB Javorius Allen not surprised by benching
Baltimore Ravens running back Javorius Allen wasn't surprised that he was relegated to the sideline after his second fumble in as many games during Sunday's 34-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs made Allen pay dearly for his first-quarter miscue as Tyvon Branch scooped it up and returned it 73 yards for a touchdown that handed Kansas City a 14-7 lead. Allen didn't see the field for the rest of the game, but head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that his benching probably won't carry over into next week.
Allen owned up to his mistake after the game and is ready to put it behind him, via the team's official website.
Allen, who also lost a fumble in last week's 35-6 loss to Seattle, finished the day with just four carries for 18 yards. Backup Terrance West ran the ball seven times for 35 yards in relief.
“You play the best players, and at running back, the best players don’t fumble. Fumbling is what it is. You have to hold onto the football. He knows that.”
"I have a lot of love and respect for Buck. In no way is Buck going to be banished, by any stretch. He’s done a lot for us. He has a great future for us. But you have to hold onto the football."
“It can’t happen. I take it upon myself, and it can’t happen. I’m a pro and it’s something that shouldn’t happen."
“It hurt to sit on the sideline and see your team out there playing. [Fumbling] shouldn't happen, and you just gotta go out there and come back harder the next week."
