Odell Beckham Jr.'s hamstring is improving
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. stopped short of guaranteeing that he will be ready to rock when training camp opens up, but he assured Giants fans that he plans to be on the field Week 1 of the regular season.
Beckham missed the majority of the team's spring practices with a hamstring injury, but it was not the same hamstring that kept him out of four games last season. During spring practices, head coach Tom Coughlin said that holding Beckham out was more of a precaution than anything else, and Beckham's comments confirmed that.
“It feels a lot better, actually,” Beckham said in an interview with Kim Jones, per Giants.com. “I’d rather be healthy than anything else. I just don’t want to go through what I had to go through last year. Not just for myself, but for this team.”
When Beckham injured his other hamstring last offseason, he tried to rush back to practice, and it only caused him to re-injure it. It makes sense that the Giants and Beckham would want to avoid a similar scenario this season.
This past weekend, Beckham posted a video of his intense workout to his Instagram account. The hamstring looks like it's causing him no problems as he moves throughout the drills. You can find the video here.
If Beckham takes things slow to kick off training camp, it will open up valuable repetitions for the Giants' reserve wide receivers like Corey Washington, Dwayne Harris and rookie Geremy Davis.
