A 911 call placed by New York Jets offensive lineman Nick Mangold helped police apprehend five suspects believed to be responsible for a outbreak of car burglaries that had totaled nearly 40 break-ins, reports TMZ.

Mangold reportedly was awoken Sunday night in his Chatham, N.J., home by his car alarm. Upon going down to inspect the situation in his garage and finding the door open, the Jets veteran placed a call to police.

Cops reportedly apprehended five suspects, two adults and three juveniles, approximately one one mile from Mangold’s home. The suspects reportedly have been charged with five counts of burglary, three counts of theft and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime.

The case presumably is the same one reported on by NJ Advanced Media earlier this week involving the arrest of five individuals “in connection with more than two dozen car burglaries that were reported over the weekend in one Chatham borough neighborhood.”

Suffice to say, Mangold’s decision to call 911 went a long way in the police apprehending these alleged crooks. It practically makes him the McGruff the Crime Dog of the NFL. Or something.
