Miami Dolphins, GM Dennis Hickey agree to part ways
The Miami Dolphins have parted ways with general manager Dennis Hickey, the NFL team tweeted Saturday.
Hickey was hired as Miami GM in January 2014, and his exit was largely expected after the team's disappointing season.
The Dolphins went 8-8 last year and are 5-10 this season, largely because of unproductive draft choices and other unsuccessful acquisitions by Hickey.
His departure is reportedly part of a restructuring effort for the team that includes a new coach search.
In statements released by the team, Hickey and executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum both said they had reached an agreement for Hickey to leave after having extensive conversations about his role going forward.
