Kapron Lewis-Moore, Brent Urban eagerly awaiting NFL debuts
Ravens defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore is chomping at the bit to make his NFL debut two years after being drafted.
Devastating injuries have cost Lewis-Moore his first two seasons. He was working his way back from a torn ACL suffered in his final game at Notre Dame when he tore his Achilles tendon during training camp last summer.
He screamed in pain and sobbed as he was carted off the field, knowing that his NFL dream would have to wait at least another year.
"There was a time when I was very upset at myself," Lewis-Moore told the Ravens' official website. "But I wasn’t doing anything wrong. It just happens. That took a while for me to come to terms with."
The physical and mental toll of the injuries had Lewis-Moore questioning if it was worth a comeback.
"I'll be honest with you. There were times when I was like, 'Do I really want to do this?'" he said. "The Achilles and ACL are the two worst injuries for an athlete."
Lewis-Moore is thankful the Ravens have kept him around, and the former sixth-round pick has been working hard in his recovery, knowing it could be his last chance to stick on the roster.
"I've been blessed that the Ravens actually kept me these last two years. I appreciate them for sticking with me, and that’s another motivating thing for me. It’s time to show them why they drafted me."
Fellow defensive end Brent Urban is in the same boat. The fourth-round pick in 2014 tore his ACL early in training camp. Urban already knew what the rehab process is like having torn the ACL in his other knee five years prior.
"You get in little ruts where you may not feel great, but I kind of know what to expect in the process,” he said. "I've been through it before and I won’t get down in certain parts. I’ll be able to push through things."
Head coach John Harbaugh is eager to see what his young linemen can do.
"It’s really important that Brent Urban and Kapron Lewis-Moore come on," Harbaugh said. "The young D-linemen obviously are going to be huge for us. We've gotten younger there really quickly. There’s going to be some major competition on the defensive line."
