A hamstring injury cost new Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Bryan Walters a chance to make his case for a roster spot during the team's offseason program. That puts the pressure on Walters to have a strong training camp to bolster his chances to make the team.

Walters, who signed as a free agent from the Seattle Seahawks March 13, missed most of OTAs with a hamstring injury. The 27-year-old, whose primary experience is as a return specialist, did return on June 16 for Jacksonville's three-day mandatory minicamp, but knows the lost time in practice may hurt him and could have hurt the team.

“You always want to be out there and the thing that kills me the most, it puts so many reps on the other guys, too, so they’re more likely to get injured,” Walters said, via Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

The former undrafted free agent out of Cornell, who returned 27 punts and two kickoffs for the Seahawks last season, will compete in training camp with Ace Sanders and Tandon Doss, among others, for the kick returner job. He said he realizes his injury has put him behind, but that camp will afford him a new opportunity to prove he deserves a spot on the roster.

"I’m going to do all I can in the next six weeks to prevent this (injury) from happening in training camp," Walters said. "But I would have liked to have made a statement now about how I play and what I’m all about.”
