Gronkowski Feeling Good, Loving Life with Martellus Bennett

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski said Thursday that he’s finally getting back into the swing of things after being hampered most of the season with a hamstring injury.

In his press conference today, Gronkowski talked about being on the field with fellow tight end Martellus Bennett and the unique matchup problems the duo create for opposing defenses.

“It’s great working with him. It’s great going out there with him. In every way possible, you just always try to create a mismatch and whoever it is, if it’s a receiver, if it’s a running back going out there flexing; if it’s Martellus [Bennett] going out there, if it’s myself going out there with Martellus, whatever it is, you’re always just trying to find mismatches, so it’s great going out there with him,” said Gronkowski.

Gronk had his best outing this season in New England’s Week 5 win over the Cleveland Browns, catching five passes for 109 yards while looking as healthy as he has been all year.

With Gronkowski getting healthier and running back Dion Lewis edging ever closer to his return from a knee injury, the Patriots are very close to boasting perhaps the most dangerous offense in the NFL, if they aren’t at that point already. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has to feel like a kid in a candy store with all the options he’s about to have at his disposal.

With Tom Brady looking sharp, both Gronkowski and Bennett have very high ceilings–and they will need to live up to that potential, especially over the next four weeks as the Patriots hit one of the most challenging stretches of their schedule, starting this week with the desperate-for-a-win Cincinnati Bengals.
