Everything you need to see from the NFL Week 5 Sunday Night Football matchup between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers.

On NBC’s Sunday Night Football this week, the 2-1 Green Bay Packers will play host to the 2-2 New York Giants. The Packers are coming off of their Week 4 bye, while the Giants come into Lambeau after a Monday Night Football loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

These are two talented, but inconsistent teams who could end up being major contenders in the NFC down the line. The Packers’ offense has not been as explosive as we are used to, but Aaron Rodgers got his team going in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions.

Green Bay defeated the Lions 34-27 heading into their bye, but 31 of those points came in the first half. Rodgers and company looked like the vintage Packers’ offensive attack in the first half of that game, but they struggled to move the ball in the second half. Which unit will show up against an improved Giants’ defense?

While the Giants’ defense is undoubtedly better than last season, they have struggled with major injuries in the secondary. Safties Darian Thompson and Nat Behre have already been ruled out of this game, while cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Eli Appe are listed as questionable.

Having at least one of those cornerbacks healthy for this game will help, but the Giants’ secondary will undoubtedly have their work cut out against Rodgers and company regardless. Janoris Jenkins will be counted on big-time in that secondary.

The Packers’ defense has played well this season. They are elite against the run, but they do have some struggles against the pass. Unfortunately for them, the Giants like to move the ball through the air.

CB Sam Shields will miss this game with a concussion, and fellow CB Damarious Randall is questionable with a groin injury. Eli Manning, Odell Beckham and company could be in for a huge game.

Highlights for this game will be provided as they happen.

Three Stars

1. Odell Beckham Jr.

The Giants’ star receiver has had an interesting start to 2016. He struggled mightily last week against the Vikings, and continues to struggle to control his emotions. That being said, he has still caught 22 passes for 303 yards this season.

Beckham is still an incredibly talented player who can make plays against anybody. I look for the Giants to get Beckham involved early and often in this game. He will perform at a high level this week, and should reach the end zone for the first time this season.

2. Randall Cobb

I expect Janoris Jenkins to primarily defend Jordy Nelson in this game. With that in mind, if Rodgers-Cromartie and Apple both miss this game, Randall Cobb could be in for a big performance.

Cobb is an extremely quick and shifty receiver in the middle of the field. He has an opportunity to take advantage of a weak Giants’ secondary in this game, and I fully expect him to do so.

3. Olivier Vernon

The Giants’ major free agent addition this off season was defensive end Olivier Vernon. While it has not shown up on the stat sheet (only one sack through four games), Vernon has played well for the Giants this season.

He is creating consistent pressure on the passer and has been fantastic against the run. Vernon will continue his strong play against a Packers’ offensive line that struggles to protect Rodgers.

Vernon has big-time upside in this matchup.

Next Week

The Giants will host the Baltimore Ravens next week, while the Packers will stay home and play the Dallas Cowboys.
