DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews not worried about carries

All offseason, there has been constant chatter about the Philadelphia Eagles' projected backfield distribution. With two very talented runners who fit the scheme perfectly, head coach Chip Kelly is tasked with finding the correct split between DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews. Regardless of what he decides, neither player cares as long as the Eagles are winning.

“We’ve all got one common goal and that’s to be in that last game of the season and I think we all know what it’s going to take to get there, and it’s going to take everybody,” Mathews said at his locker on Friday, per Rueben Frank of CSN Philly.

“We’ve all got to be together. You’ve got to be unselfish I think and we’ve got the guys that are like that.”

Murray, who was signed before Mathews and to a much more lucrative contract, feels the exact same way. Winning comes first.

“Because it’s all about winning,” Murray said. “At the end of the day, no matter how you get it accomplished, for me it’s always been about winning, whether it’s high school, college or the pro level.

“Obviously you want to be out there as a competitor and you want to go out there and lead the group and you want to work as hard as you can work, but at the end of the day this is a top-bottom league."

The shared attitude by these two backs played a big role in why Kelly went out and signed them both this offseason. He is looking for more players to fit his win-first mold, and in Murray and Mathews, he feels like he has what he's looking for.
