Darian Stewart: Broncos' safety job is 'my position to lose'

If another Broncos player beats Darian Stewart out for the free safety job, it won't be due to lack of confidence.
"It's my position to lose," the five-year veteran said Wednesday. "When I line up, man, I feel like at this level you've got to have that confidence. When I signed here, man, I knew (that) it's my job."
Denver could use a self-assured option to replace Rahim Moore this season. New defensive coordinator Wade Phillips needs someone to play alongside surefire star T.J. Ward.
The ever-confident Stewart is already planning on Ward as his new running mate in the defensive backfield.
"(Ward) plays both (safety) positions well," he said. "He's able to play the ball in the air, and I'm able to play down in the box. So we just switch it up. We're interchangeable."
If he's right, that's a big edge for Stewart. Other options like Bradley Roby and David Bruton carry their own question marks. Denver will need to see how they complement Ward.
Stewart says he already knows how he'll fare. So he's confident he'll be a Broncos starter in Week 1, when the Broncos play his old team, the Baltimore Ravens.
"When I'm healthy, I'm one of the best in the league, I feel like," he said. "As long as I'm healthy and staying on the field, my play is going to speak for itself."
