Colts, Bears open to holding joint practices again next year

The Indianapolis Colts wrapped up two days of joint practices with the Chicago Bears on Thursday with an eye doing it again next year.

While some of the other joint workouts held around the NFL this summer have seen sporadic brawls between teams, both Colts head coach Chuck Pagano and Bears head coach John Fox said their experience was enough of a positive that they'd like to continue next year.

"You’re two and a half hours (away) or whatever it is," Pagano said, per the Chicago Sun-Times. "You’re too close not to do it. It’s something we’d love to do, to continue to do.”

With the Colts and Bears set to face off in a preseason game on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, Fox said the timing of the game made sense for both teams to practice together this week.

“So much of it is how the preseason schedule works,” Fox said. “Second week, I really like. It was good timing. I don’t know if I would like it any earlier, and you start getting to that third (preseason) game, trying to get into your in-season schedule. The timing of it was great (this year), and it worked out really well.”

Fox said if the logistics can be worked out, he's on board with holding joint workouts again next year.

“We’re both going to be very open-minded about doing it,” Fox said. “I thought it went probably better than any time I’ve ever done this against an opponent. I think the location works.”
