Chris Long explains why he won’t be back with the Patriots next season

Chris Long came to the New England Patriots looking for his first Super Bowl title, and now that he has it he’s moving on.
The veteran defensive end posted a message of appreciation to Patriots fans on Instagram on Wednesday, while also saying his decision has nothing to do with money but instead his desire to return to a more prominent role.
“Thank you Pats Nation. As a player you've given so much support to, I owe you an explanation as to why I'll be moving on in FA... even if it isn't a big deal.
This year and this opportunity gave me a ton. I made lifelong friends in a great locker room and became a champion. I'm so thankful that Coach B (the GOAT) took a chance on me and allowed me the opportunity to play a small part in this wonderful year.
This has zero to do with money, etc. It's the right move in my heart because I want to get back to being the player I was before. I'm thankful for my role this year, but as a competitor, I'm itching to do what I do best.
"It was important to say thank you personally. You may not remember me much, but I'll always remember y'all!!”
Long played in all 16 games last season in New England, racking up 35 tackles and four sacks. He spent his first eight years in St. Louis, where he became one of the best pass-rushers in the league before being slowed by injuries.
The 31-year-old has 58 1/2 career sacks and might draw interest on the open market now that he appears healthy after playing 18 games combined his final two years with the Rams.
