The Kansas City Chiefs could be without some major players on Sunday afternoon, with no fewer than five Pro Bowlers on the injury report.

Kansas City needs to start getting healthy. Perhaps head coach Andy Reid knows this, is looking at the schedule, and feels like rolling the dice against the Buccaneers. Why? Because next week, the Chiefs play against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night at Mile High.

Then again, maybe the injuries are simply mounting. On Friday, the Chiefs released their final injury report of the week, and there are a host of marquee names listed. Kansas City has ruled out Jeremy Maclin, while putting Jaye Howard down as doubtful.

As for questionable, there is Phillip Gaines, Marcus Peters, Derrick Johnson, Dontari Poe, James Winchester (family death), and Justin Houston.

Houston seems the most likely to play, with Reid stating that things look good for him. Reid called the rest “iffy.” Reading between the lines, Peters might be out. He did not practice all week because of a hip pointer.

Poe was back on Thursday after resting a sore knee, but missed Friday’s work because of back spasms. He’s likely a game-time decision. Johnson practiced in a limited capacity on Friday, so chances are he gets out there. As for Gaines, he was limited all week with a neck problem, but the guess is that he plays.

Regardless, this is a serious list. Alex Smith and the offense will have to actually do something positive on Sunday if the Chiefs want to run their record to 8-2.
