Chiefs could cash in after developing one former UDFA receiver

The Chiefs won't stop raving about a guy who caught only four passes last season.

That's how excited they truly are about Frankie Hammond Jr. The young receiver has done nothing but excite in his third training camp.

“You’re beginning to see the gains and strides from his hard work out here on the field,’’ offensive coordinator Doug Pederson told ESPN. “He’s put himself in a really good position to play quite a bit for us on offense."

If so, the Chiefs should be commended for their patience and development. Hammond Jr. went undrafted in 2013. Now, the former Florida Gator could on the precipice of becoming a full-time contributor.

Hammond Jr. has certainly seen enough practice snaps to warrant more regular season looks. He's done nothing but impress as an injury replacement for Jeremy Maclin.

“He’s playing faster," Pederson said. "He understands his role, and he understands what we’re trying to get done offensively with him and he’s making plays. You see him show up time and time again and that’s encouraging.’’
