Bills WR Robert Woods suffered 'severe' groin injury, likely season-ending

The Buffalo Bills' season was unofficially ended on Sunday as they were eliminated from playoff contention following their eighth loss of the season. As if that wasn't bad enough, they also lost several players to injury.

One of those players was wide receiver Robert Woods. He exited the game with a groin injury and did not return. On Monday, Rex Ryan provided an update on Woods and it doesn't sound promising.

Ryan said he suffered a "severe" groin injury, one that could potentially be season-ending.

Woods has recorded 47 catches for 552 yards and three touchdowns this season, his third year in the league. He's been used as a blocking wide receiver for much of the year, but has flashed potential as a pass catcher, as well.

If his season is indeed over, Ryan said the Bills could promote rookie Dezmin Lewis from the practice squad. At this point, it's more about the Bills finding out what they have talent-wise rather than forcing injured players to take the field.

Lewis was taken in the seventh round of the 2015 draft out of Central Arkansas. He caught 197 passes for 2,668 yards and 24 touchdowns during his collegiate career. He brings good size at 6-foot-4 and ran a 4.58-second 40-yard dash.
