Bills, Marcell Dareus have talked about long-term contract
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is a big part of the team's overwhelming pass rush. Buffalo leads the league with 111 sacks over the past two seasons, with 17.5 of those coming from Dareus.
If the Bills want to keep their disruptive defensive line together, though, they'll have to sign Dareus to an extension -- and an expensive one, at that. Dareus deserves it, proving to be one of the best defensive tackles in the league, but whether or not the Bills want to pay him the money he deserves remains to be seen.
At the very least, Bills GM Doug Whaley said the team has made progress towards a deal, and have been in negotiations with Dareus.
"You can't pin it down," Whaley said, via Yahoo Sports. "Those type of contracts are always a challenge. But I have confidence that both sides will come to a conclusion where everybody feels that everybody wins."
A long-term deal before the season starts may be tough to do, but negotiations are always a good sign. And when the general manager is confident, deals tend to get done. Keeping Dareus to play next to Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, and Jerry Hughes would pay huge dividends for the Bills, if they're willing to pay him long-term.
