Bill O'Brien: Clowney 'on the right track' with rehab

There's one question Houston Texans head Bill O'Brien gets asked more than any other: How is Jadeveon Clowney doing?

O'Brien gets asked about the linebacker's status by fans, the media and even his 10-year-old son, Michael.

"Every night when I get home, he asks me how Clowney's doing," O'Brien said, according to the team's official website. "This is probably the question that I get asked the most."

The answer? Clowney's coming along nicely. The first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft is working his way back after an injury-plagued debut season that ended with microfracture surgery on his right knee last December.

"I've been impressed with the way JD's been working," O'Brien said. "He's been out there. He's in early. He's rehabbing. But he's also being able to take part in some of the things that we do in the weight room. He's not able to do all of the things that we do on the field just yet, because of his rehab. But he's on the right track."

O'Brien and the Texans are eager to get Clowney back on the field after doing without him for much of last season. After undergoing sports hernia surgery last spring, Clowney suffered a concussion in August during training camp. The 22-year-old was able to play in the season-opener before leaving with a knee injury that required surgery. Clowney returned in November for three games before being lost for the season in Week 12.

"The key with JD is gonna be, once he's cleared, then he's got to go do it," O'Brien said. "He's a good football player. He's an instinctive player. He understands what we're trying to do in our defense."
