Bears QB Jay Cutler to undergo shoulder surgery, season over

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will undergo surgery on the labrum in his right shoulder on Saturday and miss the remainder of the season, according to head coach John Fox.

Cutler sustained the injury in last month's 22–16 loss to the New York Giants.

The Bears have turned to Matt Barkley as the team's starting quarterback in his absence.

Cutler previously missed time this season after suffering a thumb injury in Week 2. He returned five weeks later. Back-up quarterback Brian Hoyer also sustained a broken forearm against the Packers on Oct. 20.

He finishes the season with 1,059 passing yards and four touchdowns.
