Alex Smith just can't get it done for the Chiefs in the fourth quarter

Only a handful of NFL teams field a franchise passer capable of mounting a consistent comeback.

The Chiefs are not one of them. In fact, Alex Smith has consistently proved incapable of rallying his team from late deficits during his tenure in K.C.

Consider Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Smith and Co. had two shots at a potential touchdown drive that would've won the game.

The end result? A Charcandrick West fumble, and, of course, a missed Smith pass.

It's a predictable outcome with Smith at the helm. Since joining the team in 2013, he's faced six such opportunities to mount a game-winning touchdown drive late -- with no wins to show for it.

The common denominator is Smith. If the Chiefs want to win, they better obtain a fourth-quarter lead.
