Wizards sign Smith and Murry to non-guaranteed deals
The Washington Wizards already have 15 guaranteed contracts on their books, but will reportedly bring a few more bodies with them to training camp.
According to the Washington Post's Jorge Castillo, the Wizards have signed Ish Smith and Toure' Murray to non-guaranteed contracts:
It's unlikely either player will make Washington's opening day roster, but the Wizards are thin behind John Wall at point guard, and either guy would hypothetically offer some depth.
Ramon Sessions is currently Washington's only other point guard. He's set to make $2.1 million this year. Smith is arguably the superior player, averaging just over 12 points and six assists per game in 25 games with the Philadelphia 76ers last season. Neither guard can shoot threes, though.
But it's smart to get a good look at Smith now, as possible insurance down the line in the event Wall or Sessions get injured during the season.

The 6-foot Smith is considered one of the fastest – if not the fastest – player in the NBA but has not found a home in the league. He went undrafted out of Wake Forest in 2010 and has played for eight teams over five seasons. Smith, 27, began last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder before finishing the campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers. He tied a career-high with 23 points against the Wizards on April 1. Murry, 25, has been on the Wizards’ radar since last year. He signed two 10-day contracts with Washington in March before sustaining a season-ending ankle injury in a loss to the Golden State Warriors. He appeared in four games with the Wizards and signed to play on their summer league team but was limited to just a few minutes in Las Vegas due to a groin injury.
