Washington Wizards: Kevin Seraphin Signs Deal With Indiana Pacers

Washington Wizards: Kevin Seraphin has landed a deal with the Indiana Pacers after a disappointing season with the New York Knicks.
Former Washington Wizards center Kevin Seraphin has been looking for a new NBA home this summer. After declining interest from teams in Europe and China, Seraphin finally landed a deal with the Indiana Pacers.
It’s been over a year since Seraphin last suited up for the Wizards, but his name is still closely connected with the team.
Washington believed that Seraphin would eventually take Nene’s spot in the starting lineup once the big Brazilian’s time was up in D.C.
Unfortunately, due to poor player development, Seraphin never panned out in Washington.
His scoring outbursts during the 2012-13 season didn’t result into anything substantial other than eventual disappointment.
Wittman was notorious for yanking his young players out of games, not allowing them to play through their mistakes. Seraphin was a regular inside Wittman’s doghouse and never got much of a chance to properly develop.
Seraphin will join the long list of “what ifs” that walked through the Verizon Center.
After a season with the New York Knicks, Seraphin didn’t gain much interest from teams with cap space this off-season.
He hoped to land a big deal after his season in New York, but the situation wasn’t much different there than it was in Washington.
Derek Fisher failed to create a cohesive unit and Seraphin never got much consistency on that front.
Just about a month away from training camp, Seraphin apparently did enough during work outs for the Pacers to sign him to a guaranteed deal, according to The Vertical.
Free agent Kevin Seraphin has agreed to a two-year, $3.6 million deal with the Indiana Pacers, league sources told The Vertical.
Seraphin visited the Pacers for workouts on Monday and Tuesday, and his agent, Bouna Ndiaye, finalized the agreement on Thursday night. Seraphin is expected to formally sign next week and the deal will include a team option in the second season, sources said.
Currently, the Pacers have both Myles Turner and Al Jefferson ahead of Seraphin in their rotation. Unless something unexpected occurs, like an injury, Seraphin likely won’t get much playing time this upcoming season.
Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see how Seraphin develops his game with the Pacers. He brings a similar skill-set as Jefferson, a proven veteran and former All-NBA player. Both are skilled inside and can knock down the pick-and-pop mid-range jump shot.
At one point, it looked like Seraphin would have a tough time getting another NBA gig. He’ll remain in the East after all.
