Suns take bowling alley trip to try to turn things around

The Suns managed to compete with two good teams in the Thunder and the Cavaliers, before getting crushed by two bad ones in the Kings and the Lakers.

There's plenty of dysfunction in Phoenix these days, and with Eric Bledsoe recently lost for the season because of a knee injury, there's a fundamental lack of talent in place, as well.

But after a stretch where the Suns played 20 games in 34 days, head coach Jeff Hornacek decided that some rest and relaxation might help turn things around.

"We've talked over the last two days trying to figure out how to get these guys back to having the energy," Hornacek said. "When we looked at the tape of these last couple games, it just looks like they're worn out."

The Suns already had an off-day on Monday, but they decided to make Tuesday a half-practice, half-team bonding affair. After some light shooting and reviewing defensive principles, Suns players, coaches and trainers exchanged the one strip of wood for another: the bowling alley.

The issues with these Suns go far deeper than simple fatigue, and the fun time isn't likely to truly provide a fix for what ails the troubled roster. But if some bonding can happen on trips like these, then players can begin to play for each other, and that's what coaches will tell you truly makes a difference, even in the face of a significant talent disparity.
