Should Evans be starting point guard over Holiday next year?
The Pelicans have long had a log jam in their backcourt, with Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon and Jrue Holiday all needing the ball in their hands to be successful.
But after Holiday went down with an injury this season, Evans stepped into the point guard role and flourished. With Holiday expected to return next year, should he get the job back, or have to play even more off the ball than his skill-set is good for?
Here's The Times-Picayune with more:
"Last week, Holiday said he is considering going through another surgical procedure this offseason to remove a screw that was put in to hold the steel rod in his right leg that was surgically implanted in his tibia to repair a stress fracture last season. With so many injury problems, perhaps it is time to start considering bringing Holiday off the bench. Although Holiday is an exceptional on-ball defender and playmaker, Evans has proven to be more durable and effective."
The injuries are a concern, but so is limiting a highly paid player by putting him in a position where he can't reach his full potential. Holiday is a fantastic two-way weapon, New Orleans' best perimeter defender by a wide margin, with an outside shot opposing teams must respect.
If bringing him off the bench isn't the answer, perhaps a trade is in order.
