Report: Rockets close to deal with Jason Terry

Published Jul. 14, 2015 9:45 p.m. ET

Jason Terry was a life raft for the Houston Rockets during their run to the Western Conference finals last season. Somehow, someway, the 37-year-old former Sixth Man of the Year filled in for an injured Patrick Beverley and gave Houston solid minutes as the starting point guard.

Even though the Rockets are bringing Beverley back on a long-term contract, that doesn't mean they don't want Terry's veteran influence and useful three-point shooting off the bench.

This makes sense, especially considering Nick Johnson is the only other pseudo-point guard on the roster. Houston needs depth at an important position, and Terry provides it at a very cheap price.
