Report: Nick Calathes is heading to Greece

Published Aug. 21, 2015 10:45 a.m. ET

Nick Calathes has had an up-and-down run during his two years with the Grizzlies. It appears that time is finally over.

From Avery Franklin of WMC 5:

The Greece basketball team Panathanaikos BC released as picture and tweet on July 15th stating in translation, “Nick Calathes returns to Panathinaikos where he will fight for the next 3 years."

The former Grizzlies point is reportedly getting a three year deal worth $7 million.

The former Florida Gator played in Greece and Russia and was a European All-Star before coming to the Grizzlies two years ago.

Calathes averaged 4.2 points and 2.5 assists per game as a backup point guard last season. His departure was probably expected considering the team already has Russ Smith and Beno Udrih backing up starting point guard Mike Conley.

The Grizzlies now have 16 men on the roster. JaMychal Green and Michael Holyfield are not fully guaranteed.
