Report: Nets CEO Brett Yormark would give John Calipari 'everything under the sun'
John Calipari has already had a tumultuous run with the Nets. So, why not make it a second?
The University of Kentucky coach, who coached in New Jersey from the 1996-97 season through 1998-99, hasn't expressed any interest in actually coming to lead the now-Brooklyn franchise, but Tim Bontemps of the Washington Post reports the Nets may very well be interested in a reunion if Cal wanted one.
Here's what Bontemps wrote in a recent mailbag:
Lionel Hollins is currently in his second year coaching the team, but considering the 38-44 record he put up last year has been followed with a 9-23 start to this season, next year is certainly and reasonably in question. Any team with a bottom-three NBA record is going to have inquiries about if its coach is right for the future.
Cal has repeatedly denied interest in coming to the NBA since arriving in Kentucky, with whom he has a seven-year deal that will pay him $54 million through 2022.
If Brett Yormark is in charge of decision making, Calipari will undoubtedly be offered everything under the sun to become basketball czar of the Nets. I've heard conflicting opinions on whether he'd take it, but that will undoubtedly be the first call if Yormark gets his way.
