Report: Most NBA execs think Kevin Durant will re-sign with Thunder

Published Jul. 14, 2015 10:28 a.m. ET

Kevin Durant will be the unquestioned No. 1 NBA free agent next summer. The Washington Wizards have smartly positioned themselves to have max cap space next year in hopes of luring Durant home to DC. The Golden State Warriors are even angling to have enough space to sign Durant. However, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, an informal poll of league executives reveals most think that Durant will actually re-sign with the Thunder.

"Most league execs informally polled here at Summer League expect Durant to stay in Oklahoma City when he hits the market next summer," Berger writes. "There are only a handful of teams that can legitimately think they're an option. The Lakers, the Mavs and the Wizards (in Durant's hometown) are in the mix, for starters. The Knicks? I mean, I guess, in theory."

Obviously, a lot can happen in a year, and it's not like these executives have direct access to Durant's mind. Durant himself has been mostly silent about the situation, so there's no way of knowing which way he's leaning. It won't be until next summer, or a little bit before, that we'll really know if this "poll" is right.
