New Magic coach Frank Vogel makes a bold guarantee for his first season in Orlando
The NBA coaching carousel is slowly coming to a stop and one team that appears to have come up a winner is the Orlando Magic. Orlando was stunned by the departure of Scott Skiles a few weeks ago, but did an admirable job replacing him with a proven coach.
That would be Frank Vogel, who arrives in Orlando after making the playoffs five of six seasons in Indiana. That span included two trips to the Eastern Conference finals, and the only year Indy didn't make the postseason was last season, when Paul George missed most of the season with injury.
Vogel is a man who knows what it takes to get to the playoffs.
And it's a place where he bluntly predicted his team would end up next season.
Obviously every new coach makes statements like that, yet Orlando seems uniquely equipped to fulfill Vogel's prophecy. In addition to their new head coach's impressive resume, the Magic bring back a talented young core of players, including Victor Oladipo, Elfrid Payton, Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic.
They also have the ability to add some key pieces in free agency, something Vogel was also quick to point out.
The last time the Magic made the playoffs was 2012, when ironically, they lost to Vogel's Pacers.
