Luke Walton on Steve Kerr: 'He told me he's happy with the job we're doing'

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, interim head coach Luke Walton said he and head coach Steve Kerr, who is still recovering from multiple offseason back surgeries for an indefinite amount of time, communicate on a daily basis:

BG: How involved is Steve Kerr right now?

LW: “I pretty much talk to him every day. Early on, I’d go a week without seeing or talking to him, four or five days. Since the season has started, I see him or talk to him every day.”

It's clear that Kerr's imprint is still all over this team -- the Dubs are largely playing the same way they did last season, just more refined.

More importantly, though, Walton also said Kerr is pleased with the job Walton has done in leading the Warriors to a 7-0 record to start the season:

BG: What does he communicate to you about the progress so far?

LW: “He told me he’s happy with the job we’re doing. He’s obviously excited about the fact we are winning the games.

“Our talks aren’t really about approval. They’re about what we should focus on in practice the next day. If we’re talking on a game day, it’s about what we should run to try to emphasize to the guys. Whether it’s posting up more, doing more split cuts. It’s more about details.”

That's great news for Walton, though it should come as little surprise.

What could Kerr possibly have a problem with? Even with him on the sidelines, and Andrew Bogut suffering a concussion and missing the past six games, the Warriors are steamrolling opponents and look better than last season's historic squad. Golden State certainly wants and needs Kerr back as soon as possible -- he's one of the best coaches in the league already -- but in the meantime, Walton should be recognized for the admirable job he's done filling in.
