Kevin Garnett is the teacher these young Timberwolves need
Kevin Garnett is the greatest player in Minnesota Timberwolves history, but his current role within the organization is less about scoring points, grabbing rebounds and anchoring a defense, and more about instilling the right culture in a young, impressionable locker room:
Here's Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes with more on what Garnett's duties should be over the next two seasons:
"He can use these next two years to become the organizational conscience. That way, long after he's done shouting for real, Garnett's voice will echo in the heads of the next generation. For these young Timberwolves groomed under KG, there will be no room for half-stepping, no such thing as off days. Garnett is psyched for his new role, according to what head coach and team president Flip Saunders told reporters: 'The last time I saw him this excited entering into a summertime was when we had the ability to get Latrell Sprewell and Sam Cassell back in (2003). He's very committed.'"
Typically, players at the end of their rope chase the opportunity to win a championship. Garnett easily could've done that on a veteran's minimum deal with a team like the Houston Rockets or Los Angeles Clippers.
But instead he stayed with the team that first gave him the opportunity to play professional basketball (at a considerably higher price). It's not honorable so much as it's fascinating. Either way, the Timberwolves are much better off having him aboard.
