Donald Sloan, Willie Reed snag the Nets' final two roster spots
The Nets entered training camp with 20 guys under contract, and now, like the rest of the teams in the NBA, they've finalized their roster, cutting the number of players down to the league-mandated 15 for the start of the season, which kicks off tonight.
So, who's gone? Who's remaining? Tim Bontemps of the New York Post has the answers:
The waiving of Harper and Jones means the Nets have cut down from 17 to 15 contracts. It also means that Willie Reed and Donald Sloan, two players who entered training camp on partially guaranteed deals, have made the opening-day roster.
It's especially an accomplishment for Reed, who was injured for most of the preseason, but who did have a $500K guarantee in his deal. As for Sloan, we could've guessed he'd be sticking around after the Nets cut Ryan Boatright last week. Releasing Boatright from the roster left Brooklyn with three point guards: Jarrett Jack, Shane Larkin and Sloan, who becomes even more important if Jack, the starter who is nursing a hamstring injury, is unable to go for the start of the season.
The team announced Monday afternoon they had cut forwards Dahntay Jones and Justin Harper ahead of the 5 p.m. deadline to have the roster pared to 15 players.
