Does the NBA know how to stop John Wall?
Washington Wizards point guard John Wall is one of the NBA's better all-around players. But he's not without flaws, and neither is his team.
Right now, the league is figuring out how to shut both of them down, and the Memphis Grizzlies provided a perfect blueprint on Monday night. Here's more, via The Washington Post:
This isn't particularly complicated stuff, but the Wizards really miss Bradley Beal, and Wall will see similar coverages until his backcourt partner returns from a leg injury.
Wall explained that the Grizzlies, who sometimes play with two bigs, effectively foiled any transition opportunities because they didn’t send many to crash the offensive glass, packed the paint to force Wall to shoot over the defense, and double teamed him off pick-and-rolls. It was all in attempt, Wall said, to either make him shoot a three-pointer or force another player to make a play. On Monday, the strategy worked.
