Danny Ainge: 'We're still working to try to put our team together'
The Boston Celtics haven't had cap space in nearly 20 years until this summer, and it gives Danny Ainge all the opportunities in the world to explore every nook and cranny to try and build the best roster he can for next season.
Here's what Ainge recently told reporters after Boston defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Utah on Thursday night, per CBS Boston's Brian Robb:
“We’re still working to try to put our team together; keeping our flexibility. I wish we had our whole team all put together right now, that’d be nice. Everybody looks like they are getting better in the summer and a lot of teams have made some very good moves. We like where our team is headed, but we got to do it on the court. I don’t know yet [what our expectations are for next year]. Maybe after training camp we’ll have a better feel.”
The Celtics still have a bit of cap space to spend, but more likely than spending it on another free agent, it feels like a trade is on the horizon. They have too many guards and so many power forwards, and they still need more shooting and height near the rim.
The clock is ticking for Ainge to get something done, even though Boston's still had a relatively successful offseason short of any more transactions going down.
