The Charlotte Hornets (10-7) were able to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies (11-7) as they got revenge on the team that blew them out just a week prior. After enduring a four-game losing streak, the Hornets have now won back to back game as they have turned their momentum around. Yet another big game from Jeremy Lamb has Charlotte riding high at the moment as he continues to deliver.

The Hornets were once again without Marvin Williams (hyperextended knee), who figure to be out for at least a week. Even without their starting power forward, Charlotte was able to get the job done on the road against a talented Memphis team. Nicolas Batum returned to the starting line-up in this one as he recorded six points on 1-5 shooting with two rebounds and four assists.

Turning Point:

After a tight first quarter that saw both teams tied at 25, Charlotte took the game over in the second quarter. The Hornets then outscored the Grizzlies 31-14 in the second and took control of the game. They even went on a 19-4 run to end the first half. After taking the lead in the second quarter, they never looked back as Charlotte helped the lead for the remainder of the game.

More from Swarm and Sting

Jeremy Lamb led the Hornets for the second straight game as he had a near double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. Kemba Walker also scored 21 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had one of his better games this season as he finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. He even knocked down a few jump shots.

Frank Kaminsky added 12 points and six rebounds as he got the start in place of Marvin Williams once again. Even though a big night was not needed from Nic Batum, it is still disappointing to see him struggle. Luckily, Jeremy Lamb has been playing some of his best basketball in a Hornets’ jersey lately.

The Grizzlies were led by Marc Gasol who scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Mike Conley chipped in with 14 points and five assists. Unfortunately for Memphis, he suffered a lower back injury in the third quarter and was forced to miss the remainder of the game. Hopefully, the injury isn’t serious.

Jarell Martin was the only other player in double-digits as he scored 11 points and pulled down 12 boards.

    Quick Stings

With the win, the Hornets have now evened the season series with the Grizzlies at one game apiece. This was the final meeting of the year between the two sides so their season series will end tied. At least they both exchanged blowouts.

In their next game, the Charlotte Hornets will return home to take on the Detroit Pistons. That game will kick off a three-game homestand for Steve Clifford’s side as they take on the team from Motown for the first time this season. The Hornets will be looking to continue their winning ways and go for their third straight win.
