Carmelo Anthony said something that used to make sense, but no longer does
If you wanted to make a joke about New York sports, you could go one of three places: to the Knicks, to the Mets or to the Jets.
That's the beauty of New York City. You could find teams with some great legacies, like the Yankees or Giants, and you still didn't have to strain all too hard to find some athletic comedy. This year, those rules have changed just a bit, though.
The Jets are 4-2 and challenged the Patriots up in New England on Sunday. The Mets, meanwhile, are four wins away from their first World Series title since 1986. But we still have those Knicks, old reliable, there for jabbing purposes.
So, when Carmelo Anthony compared the Knicks to the Mets over the weekend (in a positive light, of course), some heads started to turn. Here's exactly what the Knicks' best player had to say, via Sporting News:

Talking with reporters Monday, Anthony said he thinks the Knicks' rebuilding process can be successful like the World Series-bound Mets' was.
"I don't want to say similar but you can see some similarities," Anthony said, via ESPN. "The way that they kind of broke everything down and started building piece by piece and all of that came together at the right time. I don't want to say we're in a similar situation but we are. We've put pieces together and we've got to go out and build that."
