Phillies recall Garcia, cut Camp

Published May. 8, 2014 5:19 p.m. ET

TORONTO (AP) The Philadelphia Phillies recalled right-hander Luis Garcia from Lehigh Valley and sent right-hander Shawn Camp outright to the Triple-A team before Thursday's game against Toronto.

Jimmy Rollins made a second straight start at designated hitter. He was limited to pinch-hit appearances Monday and Tuesday because of a sore right groin and was not ready to return to the field, manager Ryne Sandberg said.

Catcher Carlos Ruiz was not in the starting lineup, but first baseman Ryan Howard returned after getting a day off Wednesday, when the Phillies lost 10-0. Philadelphia's struggling offense had scored in just one of its prior 34 innings.

Garcia pitched in 24 games for the Phillies last season but has made just one appearance in 2014, working a scoreless inning against Atlanta on April 14. He was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and six saves in 11 games at Triple-A.

Camp, who can reject the assignment and elect to become a free agent, was 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA in three games.
