LEADING OFF: Wainwright set to see Reds, Holt a hit machine
A look at what's happening all around the major leagues today:
---
ACE ADAM
Cardinals star Adam Wainwright starts against the Reds, who haven't scored an earned run in their last 17 innings against him. Cincinnati could use speedster Billy Hamilton - he is day-to-day after irritating his groin on an infield hit Saturday.
ON A ROLL
Matt Harvey tries to start 3-0 in his return from Tommy John surgery when the New York Mets (9-3) go for their eighth straight victory and a four-game sweep of the NL East rival Miami Marlins. New York has opened its home schedule with six wins in a row, matching the club record set in 1985 and making the Mets the only team in the majors undefeated at home.
WHAT'S UP, BROCK?
Brock Holt is making a case to play every day for the Red Sox. He's hitting .579 (11 for 19) while moving all over the field - he's already seen action at third base, shortstop, second base and center field.
LESTER IS MORE
Jon Lester tries again for his first win with the Chicago Cubs. A prized free agent in the offseason, the left-hander is 0-1 with a 7.84 ERA in two starts going into his outing against San Diego at Wrigley Field.
SHAKY SO FAR
Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in two games going into this start vs. the Phillies. Washington also needs shortstop Ian Desmond to get better in the field - he's made a whopping eight errors in 12 games.
CANADIAN HR DERBY
Freddie Freeman of the Braves and Josh Donaldson of the Blue Jays both have homered in the first two games of their matchup at Rogers Centre. Donaldson has connected three times vs. Atlanta going into the series wrapup.
HOT COLE
Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole will try to run his winning streak to six when he faces Milwaukee at PNC Park. He's 1-0 in two starts this year after winning his final four decisions last season.
