Hurdle: 'I'm not a fan of the DH'

When the St. Louis Cardinals placed Adam Wainwright on the Disabled List, social media went ablaze.

Wainwright, the Cardinals ace, was hurt while batting so almost instantly everyone started campaigning for the National League to join the American League and adopt the Designated Hitter.

Well, almost everyone. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle didn't quite see things the same way as everyone else.

“Overreaction is never a good reaction,” Hurdle told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I'm not a fan of the DH. This is not going to change my thinking or feelings.”

Although Hurdle is not a fan of the type of baseball played in the American League, he also knows he may be in the minority.

The idea of having a uniformed game – with both leagues playing by the same rules – has gained some steam recently and it may only be a matter of time before the change is implemented.

“It's not my fight,” Hurdle said. “If it is (inevitable) then I'll go ahead and make the adjustment.”
