Report: Alabama QB Cooper Bateman will transfer, may not play in playoff

Alabama backup quarterback Cooper Bateman will transfer, putting his status for the College Football Playoff in doubt, AL.com’s Matt Zenitz reports

Bateman, a redshirt junior, was expected to be the starter throughout the spring and summer but lost the job to true freshman Jalen Hurts. He has seen limited action this season, completing 12 of 14 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. He also serves as the holder on kick attempts.

Redshirt freshman Blake Barnett started the Tide’s season opener against USC but transferred to a junior college after just four games.

Bateman has already received his release to transfer, Zenitz adds.

Hurts and David Cornwell are the only two other scholarship quarterbacks on the roster.
