Brian Kelly talks Shamrock Series, experiences at Fenway
Is New England native Brian Kelly excited to take Notre Dame to Boston for a game at Fenway Park against Boston College?
You bet.
"Well, we love these Shamrock Series games," he told reporters Sunday. "We play great venues throughout the country, and this will be another great one in an iconic venue in Fenway Park, and the guys were really excited about playing in a stadium that has such great tradition."
Growing up in Massachusetts, Kelly was naturally a Red Sox fan.
He recalled getting to throw out a ceremonial first pitch over the summer at the iconic ballpark in Beantown.
"I think it was the Tampa Bay game, so got a chance to go back and go to a Red Sox game, and Sam Kennedy has been terrific and really doing everything to accommodate Notre Dame and making it a very comfortable situation for us there," Kelly said. "Looking forward to going back. Obviously growing up in the area, being a big Red Sox fan, it certainly will be fun."
The coach joked his pitch might not have been perfect, but that was by design.
"You know, (Red Sox infielder) Travis Shaw was catching my throw, and he thought it was a split-finger, so they're supposed to dive a little bit, so he covered it up pretty good for me," Kelly said.
