LSU's Ben Simmons named SEC Preseason Player of the Year

LSU freshman forward Ben Simmons was named SEC Preseason Player of the Year on Wednesday morning at SEC Media Day in Charlotte.

Simmons, a 6-foot-10 forward from Australia, was picked by media members. Kentucky center Skal Labissiere and Mississippi State guard Malik Newman were two other freshmen to receive preseason honors.

Damian Jones, Vanderbilt

Skal Labissiere, Kentucky

Stefan Moody, Ole Miss

Ben Simmons, LSU

Tyler Ulis, Kentucky

Second Team All-SEC

Dorian Finney-Smith, Florida

Malik Newman, Mississippi State

Charles Mann, Georgia

Alex Poythress, Kentucky

Tim Quarterman, LSU

Alex Caruso, Texas A&M

Kentucky was picked as the preseason favorite.
