Though Byington said the team did not have a definitive timeline for his return, he indicated that the injury is not expected to be season-ending.

The North Carolina transfer has found a solid place in the Commodore rotation and has helped the team win its first 11 games. The next opponent, Wake Forest, might be a better test.

Impact Nickel sprinted out of the blocks with 11 points before the first TV timeout. He hit another pair of 3-pointers before midway through the first half to account for 17 of the team's first 19 points. His eight 3-pointers were his career high. The 6-7 senior has scored in double digits in all but two games. Nickel is averaging 15.0 points and is hitting 47.3 percent of his 3-pointers.

Impact Tanner's shot wasn't falling, but he found other ways to contribute. This was the closest that the 6-0 sophomore has come to a triple-double and he nearly doubled his previous high in rebounds (set on Wednesday against SMU with five). The Commodores have three more non-conference games and could well head into SEC play undefeated. Road tests at Memphis and Wake Forest await.
