Packers place LB Sam Barrington on season-ending IR

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:36 a.m. ET

Green Bay's struggling run defense has suffered another major blow as the Packers prepare to host Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night at Lambeau Field.

The team announced that inside linebacker Sam Barrington suffered a season-ending ankle injury and was placed on the injured reserve. FOX Sports NFL insider Alex Marvez first reported the story.

Barrington entered last Sunday's game listed as questionable on the injury report after having hurt his ankle during the preseason. Barrington was out of last Sunday's 31-23 win over Chicago in the second quarter and left the stadium wearing a walking boot.

Combined with the absence of safety Morgan Burnett (calf), the Packers were gouged for 189 rushing yards by the Bears. Only the Minnesota Vikings (230 yards) gave up more in Week 1.
