Ravens DE Chris Canty out for season with torn pectoral muscle

Published Dec. 14, 2015 5:32 p.m. ET

Baltimore Ravens defensive end Chris Canty will not play again in 2015 after tearing his pectoral muscle in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahakws.

The team announced that Canty will be placed on season-ending injured reserve, joining a lengthy list of 18 players that includes Terrell Suggs, Joe Flacco, and Steve Smith Sr.

The injury also puts Canty's future with the team and his career in doubt. The 11-year veteran, who just turned 33 years old last month, started in all nine of his appearances this season, recording one sack and 11 tackles. Canty signed a two-year, $4.65 million contract this offseason a few weeks after his release from the club. He'll carry a nearly $3 million cap hit next season, according to Spotrac.com, a number that may be too high to keep him in Baltimore.
