Nathan Eovaldi - Earns eighth win Eovaldi (8-4) picked up the win Monday in St. Louis, allowing three runs on six hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out two.
Impact The grizzled veteran collected his 10th quality start of the season in this 82-pitch outing. Despite generating 11 whiffs, Eovaldi managed just two punchouts, equaling a season low reached twice previously. The 34-year-old closes out a stellar month of July over which he didn't walk a batter across 39 innings, pitching to a 3.23 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with 32 strikeouts. Eovaldi is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Red Sox at home this weekend.

Rangers activate 3B Josh Jung and LHP Cody Bradford, among 11 moves after Michael Lorenzen traded

The Texas Rangers have activated third baseman Josh Jung and left-hander Cody Bradford from the 60-day injured list
JULY 29, 2024 • Associated Press
Jon Gray - Could miss a month of action Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that Gray (groin) could miss up to a month of action, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact Gray tweaked his groin during warmups and had to be scratched from Sunday's scheduled start versus the Blue Jays before officially landing on the 15-day injured list Monday. It's not clear what grade the strain is, but it's evidently bad enough that the Rangers aren't expecting him back for several weeks. Dane Dunning, Jose Urena and Cody Bradford are options to fill Gray's rotation spot for now, but the Rangers are expected to get Tyler Mahle (elbow) back soon and Jacob deGrom (elbow) hopefully not long after that.

Robbie Grossman - Playing-time outlook worsens Grossman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact Grossman had started in three of the Rangers' last four games and has an active five-game hitting streak going, but his playing time is expected to become more sparse moving forward. Josh Jung (wrist) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday, and he and Josh Smith could end up serving as the Rangers' primary options at designated hitter moving forward while the other player makes starts at third base. Grossman remains an option in left field and right field, but Wyatt Langford and Adolis Garcia look to be manager Bruce Bochy's preferred starters at those two respective positions.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Andrew Knizner - Demoted to Triple-A The Rangers optioned Knizner to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
Impact Knizner lost his spot on the 26-man active roster after the Rangers acquired Carson Kelly from the Tigers on Sunday to serve as the new No. 2 catcher behind Jonah Heim. Knizner has slashed a lowly .167/.183/.211 with one home run and nine RBI across 93 plate appearances in the big leagues this season.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Davis Wendzel - Loses 40-man spot The Rangers designated Wendzel for assignment on Monday.
Impact Wendzel was cast off the 40-man roster with the Rangers needing to open up a spot for third baseman Josh Jung (wrist), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. The 27-year-old Wendzel was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on July 4 after slashing .128/.163/.234 across 49 plate appearances between his two separate stints with the big club earlier this season. He'll likely stick around with Round Rock if he goes unclaimed off waivers.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Jonathan Ornelas - Optioned to Round Rock The Rangers optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
Impact Ornelas will return to the minors after making 11 major-league outings since his call up June 30. He went 3-for-19 with an RBI over that span, as he saw his playing time diminish when Josh Smith returned from his glute injury. With Round Rock this season, Ornelas is slashing .248/.320/.348 with seven stolen bases, three triples, three home runs and 22 RBI across 257 plate appearances.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Justin Foscue - Heads back to minors The Rangers optioned Foscue to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
Impact Foscue had already been withheld from the lineup in each of the Rangers' last four matchups against right-handed pitching, and his outlook for playing time was only going to worsen with Josh Jung (wrist) returning from the 60-day injured list Monday. As a result, Texas will send the 25-year-old back to Triple-A to receive everyday at-bats. Foscue struggled to produce at the plate during his week-long stint with the big club, going 1-for-17 with a double and seven strikeouts over his five starts as Texas' designated hitter.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Evan Carter - Shifts to 60-day IL The Rangers transferred Carter (back) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
Impact Carter has already missed more than two months after landing on the 10-day IL on May 28 with a lumbar sprain, so his move to the 60-day IL won't affect his timeline for a return to the big club. At this point, it's unclear whether Carter will even be able to play again in 2024, as he was shut down from baseball activities Friday and was scheduled to get a second opinion on his back injury from a doctor in California. The Rangers should provide an update on Carter's condition once his visit with the specialist is completed, but even if the outfielder is given the green light to resume baseball activities, he'll still likely need multiple weeks to ramp up before he would be ready for big-league action.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Gerson Garabito - Recalled by Texas The Rangers recalled Garabito from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
Impact Garabito was sent down to Round Rock on Thursday to make room on the 26-man roster for Dane Dunning, but the former is back with the big club. He has pitched two scoreless innings over his last two major-league outings while working out of the bullpen, though he could work out of the Rangers' rotation after Jon Gray (groin) was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday. Garabito has eight starts across 11 outings in Triple-A with a 3.56 ERA and 1.02 WHIP across 48 innings.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Ezequiel Duran - Recalled, will start Monday The Rangers recalled Duran from Triple-A Round Rock, and he'll start at designated hitter and bat seventh Monday against the Cardinals.
Impact Duran is back with the big club for the first time in just over a month, joining the Rangers as a replacement on the active roster for Justin Foscue, who was optioned to Round Rock. The 25-year-old slashed an impressive .277/.302/.554 with five home runs and five stolen bases over his 19-game stint in the minors, but Duran likely won't be in store for everyday playing time as he rejoins Texas. Though he's out of the lineup Monday, Josh Jung (wrist) was activated from the 60-day injured list and is expected to take on a regular role beginning with Tuesday's game in St. Louis. Duran is expected to head to the bench to open up a spot in the lineup for Jung, but Duran could still get steady at-bats against left-handed pitching while he's with the Rangers.

Cody Bradford - Reinstated off IL The Rangers activated Bradford (rib/back) from the 60-day injured list Monday.
Impact It's been a long recovery for Bradford, who landed on the injured list in April due to a lower back strain, and was transferred to the 60-day IL in May due to a rib stress fracture. He was finally able to begin his rehab program July 19, and he threw 5.2 scoreless innings across his three outings, allowing just two hits while striking out six. While Bradford was part of the Rangers' rotation at the beginning of the year, he will rejoin the big club as a member of its bullpen.

Josh Jung - Returns from IL The Rangers reinstated Jung (wrist) from the 60-day injured list Monday.
Impact Though Jung isn't in the lineup for Monday's series opener in St. Louis, he finally looks to be back to full health after undergoing right wrist surgery in early April. Jung was pulled off his rehab assignment in late June after experienced renewed soreness in the wrist, but he checked out fine after playing in three games at Double-A Frisco over the weekend while going 4-for-10 with a double and two RBI. Look for Jung to return to Texas' lineup Tuesday and settle back in as the club's everyday third baseman.
JULY 29, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Jon Gray - Goes on IL with groin strain The Rangers placed Gray on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right groin strain.
Impact Gray was diagnosed with the groin strain upon being sent in for further imaging after he was scratched before the first inning of his scheduled start in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Blue Jays when he experienced discomfort during pregame warmups. The right-hander had been in line to make his next turn through the rotation this upcoming weekend versus Boston, but the Rangers could have long relievers Dane Dunning or Jose Urena step in for a spot start. Cody Bradford (rib/back) was activated from the 60-day injured list and could also be an option to replace Gray in the rotation, if he isn't needed in the bullpen during the three-game series in St. Louis that begins Monday.
